Open-Air and Indoor Cosmic Drama (Space Opera) Walk-Through Digital Projection Mapping Theater Production

Theater Production Story

Walk Through Open Air Cosmic Drama, ticket holders will get reserved upfront space, outdoor open air stage open to the public. As production progresses, it is moved indoors where ticket-holding patrons can walk through the production, get up close and personal with live-stage & actors as they move through the story. Some limited interaction possible.

Story Ideas:

  • Realism-based Cosmic Drama? Near future. Light on far-future sci-fi, but forward looking. Low-to-no fantasy.

  • Venice Opera House collaboration?

  • Utilizing new skill-set gained for NOAA Satellite & Geospatial Machine Learning project, possibly something about the earth/environment? Using live data received directly from weather satellites?

  • AI/Machine Learning data-driven visuals.

  • Outdoor Stage Story Exposition:

    • Earth habitat decline. Derivative, will probably cut or shorten greatly. I don’t want this piece to turn into an environmentalist “warming” message. It’s simply exposition.

      • Ocean acidification

      • Food scarcity

      • Global warming

      • Decline in arable land

      • Decline in livable land

      • Sea Level Rise leading to human migration inland

    • Humanity’s Colonization of space

  • Indoor:

    • The experience of being a space colonist (orbital, moon, mars, etc)

    • Walking through colony ship and it’s events as nearly as a participant

    • Walking through moon/mars colonies

  • Realization of the EM drive?

  • Inspiration:

    • Leviathan Wakes, Corey, James - Humanity has colonized the solar system—Mars, the Moon, the Asteroid Belt and beyond—but the stars are still out of our reach.

    • Consider Phlebas, first published in 1987, is a space opera novel by Scottish writer Iain M. Banks. It is the first in a series of novels about an interstellar post-scarcity society called the Culture.

Box

Box explores the synthesis of real and digital space through projection-mapping on moving surfaces. The short film documents a live performance, captured entirely in camera.

Test bed: iPhone 12 / iPad Pro LiDar + Portable Projector

AR at the speed of light.

iPhone is already designed from the ground up for AR, and now the LiDAR Scanner in iPhone 12 Pro takes things to a whole new level.

More info for more accuracy A detailed depth map in nanoseconds

The LiDAR Scanner measures absolute depth by timing how long it takes invisible light beams to travel from the transmitter to objects, then back to the receiver. LiDAR works with the depth frameworks of iOS 14 to create a tremendous amount of high-resolution data spanning the camera’s entire field of view. And the beams pulse in nanoseconds, constantly measuring the scene and refining the depth map. For AR, that’s a game-changer.

Instant AR

LiDAR can instantly understand the surfaces in your space. So AR apps can get right to work analyzing the scene and creating custom experiences.

Scene geometry

With a detailed representation of every surface in a room, LiDAR can place content everywhere it should go to look realistic — whether that's on the curve of your couch, the back of a chair, or even your messy desk. That makes AR apps much smarter. For example, if a landscape is being projected onto your living room, the grass will grow only on the floor and spread right up to the furniture, completely adapting to your space.

Advanced occlusion

A more accurate depth map also allows iPhone 12 Pro to understand which objects are in front of others. So if AR characters run through your driveway, they’ll accurately pass behind your car and in front of the tree — keeping you fully immersed in your experience.

A camera that sees in the dark / Night mode portraits

LiDAR also unlocks advanced capabilities for the Pro camera system, including up to six times faster autofocus in low light. And on the Wide camera, the detail of the LiDAR depth map makes Night mode portraits possible. Now, even in low light, the Neural Engine can render your subject in focus against a beautifully blurred background.

ABOUT BRIST

Why do we do what we do?

Brist was created, not by convenience, but by necessity. In 2010, we entered into the textile industry as a small private label that grew into a lifestyle brand sold by national retailers.  As we attempted to grow, we realized that the manufacturing industry had one standard: massive order minimums with no regard for over-production and no room for small brands like us.  Like many small businesses, we were constrained by the outdated textile industry that didn’t adhere to our needs. But instead of giving up when we couldn’t meet the order minimums, we chose to challenge the status quo and revolutionize the way companies design, manufacture, and receive products, regardless of their size. At Brist we believe in the idea of creating sustainable supply chains. By committing to quick turnaround times and low minimum orders we reduce excess waste allowing us to focus on high customization and private label design while at the same time giving companies what they need when they need it.  From start to finish, Brist provides our clients with garment design, cut and sew manufacturing, e-commerce, warehousing & fulfillment. Brist is changing the textile industry one garment at a time and we invite companies small and large to be a part of our journey to weave together a more sustainable future.
